Description

This is a urethane plastic replica cast of a huge male African leopard skull. The leopard is one of the smaller of the big cats that ranges over much of Africa and into parts of the middle east and Asia. It is more slightly built than the similar-looking jaguar and is an excellent climber, and is able to drag prey up to three times its own weight into trees to be hidden from larger ground dwelling predators and scavengers. The leopard also has the notorious distinction of being perhaps the worst dedicated man eater ever to have co-existed alongside of humans (and human ancestors) for millenia, often out-doing both lions and tigers for sheer numbers of people killed by a single animal and for being incredibly difficult to hunt down and kill. Leopards normally prey upon pretty much any animal that is small enough for them to be able to drag up a tree or to be consumed whole on the ground. Size varies based on sub-species and location, and leopards can weigh anywhere from about 65lbs up to 200lbs, and males are larger than females.
The skull is 10 1/4″ long by 6 3/16″ wide (total score of 16 5/8″, which meets the Safari Club gold level size range for the record book, although to my knowledge the skull this cast was made from was never officially scored. The canine teeth on this cast are wickedly long – just over 2″ on the upper canines. Every detail has been captured, right down to the texture of the bone and the open nerve and blood vessel holes in the skull. This replica has been cast in two different colors of urethane for added realism – untinted (white) for the teeth and off white for the bone. . I’m happy to combine shipping on multiple purchases. Please note – this cast, like all the skull casts I sell, is made to order so please allow a few days for the cast to be made up.
